My Music Influences & Style
I'm mainly influenced by 90's Grunge groups, like: Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and The Smashing Pumpkins. My biggest influences are: Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bush, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Black Flag, Mudhoney, The Beatles, The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Jimi Hendrix, Rage Against the Machine, and The Doors. My music blends the shifting dynamics and depressing lyrics of Nirvana, Alice In Chains, & The Smashing Pumpkins with the poppy, mainstream sounds of The Beatles, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It has much simplicity to it's guitar, which I get from listening to Black Flag and Mudhoney. Unlike Punk Rock, it has much longer guitar solos such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, & Guns N' Roses have in their songs. And it has a sound that combines Classic Rock with an Alternative sound, much like Cage the Elephant or The Strokes, but not exactly the same. I don't know what this music is called, but I know it is a mix of Grunge, Metal, Punk, Alternative, Classic, New Alt Rock, Art Rock, New Wave, and Goth Rock. Whatever it is, it falls under the Alternative or Rock category.
My Favourite Song: "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana
My all time favorite song. It was ranked the greatest song of the 90's, and the 6th greatest song of all time by online VH1 polls. It has inspired me, and my life beyond ANYTHING else in the world. It's one of those songs that remains timeless despite being released in 1991. Kind of like "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin or any Beatles song are all timeless. This is my favorite band also, ranked the 14th greatest Artist of All Time by VH1 online poll. Their singer/guitarist, Kurt Cobain, is my hero. He committed suicide in 1994, which was called the 3rd most shocking music moment. R.I.P. Kurt.
This song symbolizes the end of 80's Hair Metal and Glam, and the emergence of Grunge and Alternative music in the 90's, tapped into adolescent angst, and created a new genre of music. Not bad for one song! Kudos to you, Kurt Cobain!
